So many questions, so little time. And time is precious. I won't take much--will answer only one of the above questions (five times).
Who I want to meet this decade
(in my wildest dreams, obviously!)
by Bethany Wiggins.
1. Intellectual: Alexei Filippenko, Professor of Astronomy, Berkley. Al, I want to know the secrets of the Solar System, Galaxy, Universe, etc. Is there other life out there?
2. Actor: Christian Bale. Chris, I loved you way back when (anyone remember "Newsies"?). Mind giving me a recap of the past twenty years of your life?
3. Author: Robin McKinley. This woman introduced me to new worlds and inspired my imagination as a young adult. And it has never stopped growing. Love you, Robin!
4. Musician: Moby. Dude, you don't eat meat so if you want to hang out for a chat, I'll do vegan for a day. But where do you get the inspiration to write music that inspires entire novels?
5. Other: Marlene Stringer. Oh, how I'd love to sit down with her for an hour and pick her brain--learn everything I can about the publishing industry and what's hot now! (I suppose I could just email and ask, but in person would rock!)
So... Who do you want to meet? What amazing feats are you going to accomplish? What are you NOT going to do this decade? (I'm not going to query for the first time in five years, but since I already answered the above question, I won't tell you that!)
Please, feel free to share.

Oh, what a coincidence, I was just editing a scene that had Christian Bale in it.
I'd love to meet Marlene some day as well.
I want to meet Elizabeth Wurtzel, Clive Barker, and Stephen King (all writers).
Happy new year.
Wow, where to begin...
Let's start simple. One person I'd like to meet in 2010... Suzette Saxton! :D You too Bethany! You are an awesome pair!
I've loved Christian Bale since Newsies too - so hot.
I do remember Newsies. And still I dream of Christian in one of those hats...Yum.
Happy New Years!
Newsies is awesome! Yeah, definitely need a recap. What a fun list!
I'd like to meet Colin Firth. :) In all seriousness...I'd love to meet writers, Christa Parrish and Nicole Baart. Or JK Rowling. And I'd LOVE to meet some of my blogging friends face-to-face. The president would be cool too.
Great question! I'd love to meet Nora Roberts, Suzanne Collins, Farley Mowat & Anne McCaffrey. And I agree with Katie- I'd love to meet my blog friends!
Happy New Year!
How fun! Hmmm, since I had the pleasure of meeting Becca Fitzpatrick and some of the incredible folks at Simon & Schuster in 2009...I'd have to say Suzanne Collins is one author I'd love to meet this year. I just finished Catching Fire and was just as blown away as I was with The Hunger Games. She's brilliant!
I also hope I get to meet my two awesome critique partners in person. ; )
There is only one person I want to meet, and I'm bound and determined to make it happen in 2010. That person . . . my agent!
I don't know who it is yet . . . and neither do they . . . but we both can feel it!
Christian Bale's mouth bugs me, so you can have him all to yourself, Bethany! I'll take Patrick Dempsey (the younger years).
I would want to meet Jane Goodall. She's my hero! Do you think she'd agree to meet with me if I made her some awesome food? I could grovel if nothing else works...
Oh, I LOVED Newsies. LovedLovedLoved it. My favorite line was towards the end: "Never fear, Brooklyn is here!" It wasn't Christian Bale who said it, though; it was Spot, that kid with the slingshot that everyone was afraid of. :-)
I'd like to meet:
1. Stephen Hawking
2. Michael Vartan from Alias
3. Stephen King, without a doubt. That dude has changed my life!
4. Vienna Teng. Her music wows me.
5. Brendan Deneen. Want to see if he's as funny in RL as he is in correspondences. (And I could learn so much from him...)
My amazing feat for the decade will be this: To gain a place in the literary world with my fiction.
XOXO
Love to you all!
Suzy
:O Don't know how I missed your comment, Mandy, but HOPE to meet you, too!
OMG! Christian Bale! Slobber slobber slobber... though did you see him in The Machinist?? Not so slobberlicious there... anyway. After you meet him, could you send him over to my house? Thanks. :)
These questions are so hard for me because I over think it. For example, I think I'd be too scared to meet Oprah because I don't think we'd have anything in common to talk about. That said, I think I'd like to meet Stephen King, Ree Drummond, The Fug Girls and Ted Casablanca. Random, yes. But we'd have killer dinner conversation.
YAY!!!!!! I love Moby. Love him so much I named my dog after him ten years ago. :) He's def on my "to meet" list.
Ooh, Christian Bale. He's made a lot of awesome movies. Still, if I had to pick one famous film person to meet, it would probably be Colin Firth, because he's been in a ton of awesome movies. (Pride and Prejudice on the BBC, which he is in, by the by, is totally awesome.)
I love your list, but am embarrassed that I probably couldn't answer number one. Christian Bale and Robin McKinley are right up my alley! And I'd love to meet Marlene too... if only. I love what you're NOT going to do this decade. My amazing feat will be (you guessed it) writing a novel that is so outstanding, I will be offered representation by one of my top-pick literary agent.
Happy New Year Bethany :)
Astronomer Alexi sounds awsome!
Can I come, too?
1. Intellectual--Stephen Swinburn is a great children's nf writer. I befriended him at a writer's conference, but would like to get together with him again and pick his brain some more.
2. Actor--Taylor something or other...He's Jacob in New Moon...OMG, I'm a sick twisted 40+ woman...
3. Author/illustrator--Jane Yolen, what an icon. Jerry Pinkney, my dream illustrator.
4. Musician--Trace Atkins. What a great speaking and singing voice.
5. Other--I'd adore seeing my online critique group again. We met a year and a half ago at a Highlights Foundation conference. They rock!
6. I'm with DL. I want to meet my agent. :) Whom ever that will be.
Jackee a friend of mine met Jane at a zoo and visited with her. Watch your local zoo announcements. Maybe you'll get lucky.
"Jackee said...
Christian Bale's mouth bugs me, so you can have him all to yourself, Bethany"
Oh my goodness. I almost spit out my tea.
I would love to meet my characters. We could sit down, have some treats, and I could remind them who ought to be boss. >:)
Sharon: No kidding?! I'll have to check out events at the Phoenix Zoo, then!
Southpaw: Was it hot? :)
Happy New Year!! Is it too late to still be saying that? I don't know when the deadline is for that phrase. I am looking forward to the next 10 years for many reasons but mostly to see my son grow up a little baby to a 10-year-old boy. Really interested to see how much he and I both change over the next decade. Take care.
I'd love to meet Marlene some day as well.
