New Year, New Dare

So I totally dare you.

I've posted about this before, but you know when you're watching reality TV and someone on Project Runway sends down a totally bland, totally boring outfit (Unlike the outfit on the left!)? Or on American Idol, someone sings a song exactly the same way the original performer sang it? The judges always have the same answer.

Too Safe!

And does safe ever win? Nope.

So this year my dare to you is:

Make a resolution to write a bold, brilliant ANYTHING. It can be a short story. A novel. A poem. Write something that's so audacious, when you tell people the premise they look at you like you just might be a little bit crazy (you probably already know that look, don't you. I sure do!). I dare you.

What is your writing resolution?

Ooooh... I like this. I have no idea what it will be, but this challenge is going to stick with me until I figure it out.

A dare? I'm in! Now, what to do?

I like it too - I'm going to have to think on it for a bit though! :)

My writing resolution is pretty simple:

Polish up my synopsis so that I can jump in that vast ocean called "querying".

And people already look at me a little weird to begin with, so I get even more fractured stares when I tell people the plot to my novel:

Woman in debt to a family loan shark has one week to raise the money, so becomes an adult movie actress in order to raise the funds. Sounds a litte pedestrian but the twist that the woman lives with a symbiont (ala "Deep Space Nine").

I'm looking to be bold and daring this year! There is a possibility that a publisher will want to publish my book this year and I'm going to stand out and say this...

I plan to finish that MS and make the publisher proud so that in 2012I'll have a published date!

My resolution is to be ambitious! ^_^ That's why I'm going to try writing 30 poems, 5 short stories, and 1 novel, all in 365 days. Why those numbers? I dunno, 'cause they feel right for me.

I also want to join writers groups, and learn about querying, and meet lots of authors! Instead of being a shy, wanna-be author, I'm daring myself to be an ambitious one. ^_^

Wish me luck!

btw, how about your resolutions, Shooting Stars?

Oooh, I like this idea. Not always easy, though.

I blogged about my goals (I don't make resolutsions) yesterday. Now I just have to remember to check them out at the end of the year to see how many I followed through on. :D

My goal for 2011 is to finish my first draft. But since I hope to finish it before the end of the year, maybe I'll take you up on your dare after!

I can't speak for Suzette, but my resolutions this year are: Finish my WIP, that WIP that people look at me funny when I try to explain it. Start another book and have three chapters by April 1. There are many more resolutions, but I won't bore you guys!

Now, dares I can get into. This was all I needed to push me over the edge into the fluid narrative I so want to write...whoa...here I go again...this is going to be some wild ride!! Thanks!

That has been one of my goals - to go bolder and bigger in my writing. Think big. :)
