Writing Fears

You know when that lightning idea strikes and all of a sudden you have this stellar concept for a new book? I know you know this feeling.

Here's my question. Is it only me, or are you guys ridiculously paranoid about sharing new ideas for fear that they'll get stolen?

And what extremes do you go to to keep your manuscripts safe? Me? My fear is that the computer will crash and my story will get lost, so in addition to having Carbonite, I email myself all of my manuscripts.

How about you? What are your writing fears?

I confide in my writing partner about any ideas that pop into my head. It helps unload my excitement and I know she is trustworthy. My biggest fear is that others won't love my book as much as I do.

Yep. I'm kind of scared of sharing my Bright! Shiny! ideas, too. I'm not so worried about sharing actual pages written, though. Maybe it's becaues it's more difficult to prove someone stole your idea than it is to prove you're the one who wrote the pages?

Then again, I just don't want anyone else to get to my ideas before I do! lol

I get paranoid about sharing my titles sometimes - which just goes to show how delusional I am. Nobody is going to steal my title. Heck, my publisher might not even use my own titles. :)

My fear is that if I say them out loud, I will hear how stupid they really are and I will lose faith in the idea.

Loose lips sink manuscripts!

I don't like to share my ideas, either. I don't fear they'll get stolen. I fear someone will think it's stupid. I fear deep down that what I think is a great idea is really just dumb. It's an irrational fear. But when my hubby asked me what my new novel was about, I just stared at him for a second and said. "You'll see."

I hear all of you on fear of sharing your ideas! For years I'd tell people what I was writing and they'd look at me like I was insane.

My email won't let me send a message to you so I'll just do it here ;)

I think your book shifting looks really interesting and I can't wait to read it!! :) If your giving away ARC's of your book in the future I would love to read and review your book on my blog.

I am gu shy on any new idea until the book is written and polished. And trust me...it is only ONE of my writerly fears!

I usually wait until I'm a good ways into the book before I share my ideas, for a variety of probably insane reasons LOL

And I email myself copies of all my manuscripts also :) I used to save them onto disks, but having them online somewhere is sooo much more convenient...and then I'm always able to get a hold of them when I need them no matter where I am :)
