Why I Write ::Reason #33:: by Bethany Wiggins

Because when I write a novel, it feels as if I am living in the space and time encompassed in the words put down on paper. The story is in my blood, my cuticles, my hair follicles, the words splayed on my skin. I am living in another world, consumed by my characters' emotions--sometimes to distraction.

On the other hand... reason #18 why I don't like being a writer::

LOL. Why do you write?

Exactly! It can be such a plus, but then there's the real world that we need to/want to take part in too :)

Because I love it! : )

I write to escape.

I write to reveal what's important to me.

I write to destroy the stereotypes promoted by Hollywood toward a certain group of people.

I write because I LOVE IT! (sorry, felt like repeating that one)

Yeah, it can be a double-edged sword when you realize you're getting more enjoyment out of ordering imaginary people around than you do from everyday life.

That's when it's time to unplug and hug your loved ones who have been so patient with your erratic mood swings. ;)

LOL true story. I write because I can't not write, which is both a beautiful and disastrous thing. :)

I write because I enjoy telling a story.

No, scratch that.

I write because I have this insastiable need to prove people wrong about me.

I write because I enjoy making people think.

I write because, well, I can. Just about average at the moment, but's that okay, because I have that need to prove people wrong about me, so practice will make perfect.

I write because I love it, every grueling minute. I also love when you lose all sense of time and like 18 hours have passed and you realize that you haven't moved or eaten.

Yeah, it's like that-beautifully said ;--)

There's probably dozens of reasons why I write, but the one that rises to the top is my desire to show the world I'm much more than my introverted personality lets on. I'm extremely shy, except when I write. Writing allows me to express emotions and inner depth that are rarely seen outside of my own home.

I write because it is a big part of who I am. A part of me that I ignored for far too long. No more!

Great post. It is always inspiring to read why other's write.

Because I always feel like there's so much else I didn't get to say or didn't know how to say after I leave a conversation or scene or imaginary scene. So many ways I didn't feel I came across as who I am.

Perfectly written, thought, and matched to that photo. Humbled.

Because it's fun. I mean, it's not always fun. Sometimes it's really hard. Sometimes nothing works. Sometimes I want to beat my head on a wall/desk/random stranger or just plain give up. But I like telling stories, and I like dreaming up interesting characters and strange places. At the end of the day, this is what I love to do.

What an image! Writing can be so consuming.

That's beautiful, and so true!

I love stories that really suck you in. I'd say one of the reasons I write is to transport people into another world.

I feel you on this. Sometimes I get so absorbed, I forget about other things. It's hard to get into that, and hard to come out. But I like it, so I keep doing it.

I like to make people feel things. But, then I feel too many things. It is exhausting and inspiring.

And, I love the pic. What is that from?

J, the picture is just a bit of awesomeness that I found on flickr.com. I love it. Wish I'd taken it!

Thanks, guys, for sharing!

Beth, you're a poet. I love the way you describe things. I feel this way too, sometimes I pity my children.

I enjoyed reading your description.

I feel I can express myself better in writing versus the spoken word.
