In Like a Lion

Has anyone besides me been living for days with crazy windstorms? We've been dealing with 70 MPH gusts that come roaring down our little canyon. (To see where we live, click on the photo above. The red arrow is pointing to our house.) Finally, this evening, the winds seem to have calmed.

Just now my teenage son (who snapped the photo) came to me. "Close your eyes. Tip your head back. And smell!" He opened the deck door behind me. My favorite scent rolled in, cold and crisp and fresh. Rain. The first rain of spring.

Of course, now that the rain has turned to sleet, I have no doubt that winter is not yet through with us. Which is okay. Because March has most definitely come roaring in like a lion. It will be nice to watch it leave like a lamb.

What about you? What is your favorite type of weather?

Definitely NOT March weather! My birthday is this month - right on the first day of spring. However, my favorite type of weather is fall. Crisp in the morning warm during the day, crisp at night. I love it! Only downfall is that it means winter is coming...

You live in a beautiful area!

It hasn't been crazy weather were I am in a while, but there has been a terrible pandemic of the flu going around. 89 kids missing from school last monday, and it's been getting worse.

My favorite type of weather is snow in the winter, and scalding heat in the summer, without humidity.

We've had the flu here, Brian. My daughter missed 2 weeks of school because of it. (One week for illness, the other for an allergic reaction to amoxicillin.) You like intense weather!

Wind is nice if it only comes occasionally. I'm wondering if JN Future Author would someday like to live in Wyoming where it's windy all the time. :P

Autumn is lovely, if fleeting. I'm with you, Lady Glamis. The crisp evenings are a delight!

Early summer or late fall.

Spring, too because I love it when tulips come out.

I followed you over here from Query Tracker. Loved your piece on dreaming big. Thanks for the inspiring words!!

Mm, the smell of rainfall. Second only to the smell of old leatherbound books with yellowed pages.
I'd have to say that my favorite weather is the weather that we get down in Florida during hurricane season. I know that sounds weird, but it gives you the opportunity to hang out with your family and listen to the rain fall down and hit the roof.
I also love clear, crisp, freezing winter days.

wow 70 MPH winds! that will wake you up and on a bright side you will know when your pants are unzipped. We call that the motorcycle effect. Stay warm.

Motorcycle effect. LOL Dan!

Hurricane season sounds neat when you put it that way, Jen. I love time spent with family.

Suzette-

I didn't know how else to reach you but wanted to sincerely thank you for becoming a follower of my blog ("Hope n' Change Cartoons")! I was also pleased to discover your affiliation with QueryTracker.net, which I follow and enjoy!

I like your site - and am envious of your scenery and "time-gobbling" property (well, except for that dangerous looking icicle in the "before" picture!)

Suzette Saxton said...

Yay Stilton, I am so glad to hear from you! It's my pleasure to follow your blog.

LOL about the icicle! We had fun knocking that one down after we took the photo.

You can always email me. I love to hear from fans of the QT blog.

See you on the blogs! ;)

The rain is one of my favorite smells! I love it! I actually am kind of fond of the wind as well. The area I grew up in was known as "Blow" valley. I'm also a snow baby. Winter is my favorite season, but I love that weather changes. I'm kind of partial to change.

Suzette Saxton said...

Hi Janyece! I'm so curious - where is Blow Valley?

Central Utah - Castle Dale, there's a place right up the canyon called Joe's Valley but the Navajo people call it Blow Valley.

Spring, because the warmth is welcomed after a chilly winter.
Autumn, because the chill is welcomed after the heat.

When I was in school, I would devolop a crush on a new girl every September. The autumn chill would just about start around the new school year. It ALWAYS wakes my senses.

Oh, I also love snow. Pile it on.

That is fun to know, Charlie. I write fiction for children, and I can just picture an MG novel where the MC falls in love every September. :)

I love the snow too! We're supposed to be hit with yet another blizzard tomorrow.
